Net Zero Hub Events

The Net Zero Hub organises events to share best practice and address barriers to the development of local energy projects. A selection of recent events is available on this page.

Net Zero Places Webinar Series – Decarbonisation of Buildings and Estates

As part of the Net Zero Places Innovation Network initiative, Innovate UK KTN, in partnership with the Greater South East Net Zero Hub, hosted a series of free webinars for local authorities, to answer the most common questions about the decarbonisation of buildings. These webinars are now available for download on demand. They aim to help local authority officers who have the responsibility to meet net-zero targets and who want to hear how other authorities have approached this challenge. The seven topics are:

  1. How to improve fabric efficiency
  2. When and where to utilise heat pumps
  3. Alternative fuels and technologies
  4. How technologies can be integrated to optimise heat and energy performance
  5. How to use data and modelling to understand the performance of proposed measures
  6. How to work with your network operator to realise your project – and what the alternatives are to conventional grid connections
  7. Innovations in heating: modular construction, waste heat, and natural solutions

Electric Vehicles – Enterprise M3 Local Workshop

This workshop brought together project developers, network operators and the supply chain in the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership area. The event was designed for local authorities that had met barriers to the development of their EV charging and infrastructure projects, such as grid constraint and lack of funding.

The event was supported by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks and National Grid, as well as installers and local authorities. These organisations shared their experience, solutions and best practice with participants.

Financing Energy

The aim of this event was to address one of the key challenges for local energy project development – to source and secure finance. The agenda and presentations from the event are shared here.

The event explored the approaches taken by local authorities that have successfully secured development and capital project finance. Participants heard from a range of private finance companies with a track record of investment in public and community projects. Group ‘surgery’ sessions enabled participants to share their challenges and seek advice from leaders in project development and investment.

We encourage energy project developers to consider alternative options for financing, such as those highlighted by this event. Further information is available on the Investment page of this website.
